If you’re a petite girl like me, you probably feel like your height is the only deterrent to your being stylish. I felt the same way before untilI saw somewhere that Kim Kardashian’s height is only 5’2″ and thought: Wow! I’m a full inch taller than her!
So I looked around over the net to see which celebrities who are known for their style are shorter than me and the names in the list stunned me. The list includes: the fabulous Olsen twins, the astounding Zoe Kravitz, the striking Rooney Mara, the amazing Natalie Portman, and even Mother Monster herself, the eccentric Lady Gaga. Yup, the list goes on and on, and quite frankly, it felt good knowing that there are many petite girls out there who have made a name for themselves when it comes to their styles even when they’re “vertically challenged” like me.
So how do these celebrities make themselves look tall? Well I’ve found out that it all boils down to their choice of clothes and of course, optical illusion. If you want to add some extra inches to your look, here are some neat tricks:
Heels, Heels, Low-Cut Vamp, Heels
It’s no rocket science really—shoes with heels will not only make you look tall, it will quite literally make you a few inches taller. Plus, choosing a slimming style like a pair of stillettos will make your leg appear longer thus make you look taller, as opposed to chunky shoes like wedges and such. In addition, choosing a style that has a low-cut vamp will also make your legs appear longer.
Go Short or Go Long
Yes, shorter dresses, shorts, and skirts as well as long clothing such as long dresses and skirts are a great way to make your legs appear longer thus making you look taller. There are no in-between, you either go super long or you go super short.
High Waist = Long Legs
Again, making your legs look longer will make it appear like you’re tall. So if you’re looking to heighten your physical stature, high waisted pants and skirts are definitely a great way to create that optical illusion of length.
We all know color is a powerful tool in optical illusion. That’s why wearing monochrome outfits is a very effective trick in making your body look longer and at the same time leaner.
Perfectly fitted at the top and flared at the bottom—that’s how petite girls should choose their pants. Again, this is a neat trick that will make the illusion of a longer leg.
Go Max on Maxi
It was always thought that maxi dresses will make you look shorter—this is definitely untrue. In fact, a well-cut maxi dress will not only make you look taller, it will also make you look fabulous. Just choose a design that creates a long vertical line (hence avoid anything with multiple pleats and layers) and you’re good to go.
Tighter Than a Tourniquet
Yes, the tighter, the better—though not really as tight as a tourniquet, but you get my drift. Close fitting clothes such as skinny jeans and tight dresses and skirt are a petite woman’s best friend as it creates an illusion of height.
Slit Yo’ Skirt
The long slit on a skirt (or dress) provides an impression of vertical lines on your leg, which naturally makes your leg appear long.
No we can’t change the fact that we’re short but we can definitely do something about it. The tricks I’ve mentioned above are just some of the basics you should learn in order for you to create that illusion of height and I’m sure there are a lot more out there.
