“Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
I wanna shoot
The whole day down.”
The 80’s New Wave band, Boomtown Rats, must have read my mind as this song pretty much sums up how I feel every first day of the work week. Call it The Monday Blues, call it a weekend hangover, or call it laziness, that’s just the way things are—and I’m quite certain I’m not the only one.
Getting Dressed for Success
Yup, we can all agree that Monday sucks. Still, no matter how crappy we feel every Monday, there’s just no excuse not to look good in the office—not on Monday, not on Tuesday, not EVER! Especially if you have your eyes on a promotion or if you’re about to close an important deal with a difficult client, dressing up stylishly (and appropriately, of course) would project an image of professionalism and success, which can help you get the deal you want.
Getting Over the Monday Blues
So how would you go about dressing yourself up everyday for success? Well, before anything else, you have to have the right attitude in how you dress up every morning. My daily mantra? Making everyday an occasion. Yes, even on a Monday, I get over the weekend hangover slump quickly (faster than most, I must say) by thinking that there will be a huge event coming up later that day. This mindset gives me something to look forward to and of course motivates me to dress up stylishly.
Key Elements to Office Chic
All of us have our own preference when it comes to style. However, there are some critical elements that shouldn’t and mustn’t be overlooked. Here are some of the basics that every working woman should have:
- The Black and White Office Ensemble
The black and white combination, it’s simple yet elegant. You can either go for the black bottom with a white top, or vice versa. There are also many variations to this timeless classic by mixing and matching different skirts, pants, and blouses.
- The Little Black Dress
The LBD is really a versatile piece as it can be worn in pretty much any occasion—from cocktail parties to the boardroom. There are also many ways you can wear it. Wear it with stilettos and a blazer and you will look like you’re at the top of the corporate ladder. Wear it with flats and it’s the perfect dress-down Friday attire.
- The Breezy Shirt Dress
Comfy and chic, that’s how I can describe breezy shirt dress. They’re also pretty flexible as it can be an appropriate attire while you’re in a meeting with the company CEO or while you’re just having after-work drinks with your colleagues.
- The Shirt , Jeans, and Blazer Ensemble
Some say jeans are unsuitable to be a corporate attire. Well they’re right if you wear your jeans with just a pair of sneakers and t-shirt. However, if worn with a blouse, blazers, and heels, then it’s definitely an attire fit for a corporate executive.
- Accessorizing Your Getup
When accessorizing, keep in mind that less is better when it comes to office attire. Simple accessories such as watch/earrings, bracelet/necklace, or necklace/watch/earrings combinations would be enough for you to look glamorous in an office setting. Plus, you have to remember that bags are considered as an accessory so…
- Heels, Flats, and Sandals
You must, at least, have these three footwear to be able to say that you have all the shoes you’ll need for your office wear. These shoes are so versatile that you can actually mix and match them with all the pieces in your office wardrobe.
Now, if you don’t have any of these, I suggest you invest on these chic office essentials. That’s because they will not only make you look good in the office, it will help build your character and personality in your office environment. And, as I’ve mentioned earlier, nothing beats getting over the Monday blues better than dressing yourself up in the morning.
